Thousand Oaks California.
November 5th, 2008.
Wow, it is over. What a wonderful experience.
Many people have called or emailed me to say how sorry they are that I didn't win.
But I honestly believe anyone who participates is a winner. If you took the time to search the websites, send inquiring emails or called to asked question then you are a winner also. And everyone who voted and made a contribution to the democratic process is again a winner.
Those of us who were fortunate enough to run for an elected position can never be called a loser. I have really enjoyed my time meeting people, discussing issues and setting a tone in this election. It has been my privilege to do so. It was also my privilege not to get caught up in petty accusations and silly personal attacks. I believe voters are tired of this from candidates. People are fed up with the spin doctors and the negative ads.
Many people asked why they did not see a mailer from me.
Well, I was happy not to do that. Most of us discard them just as fast as they come in. Many people see these mailers as abusive at times. I see them as an expensive waste of resources. So, for those who were paying attention you knew I wouldn't waste my money and your time in this way.
And last, some people commented on the lack of funds reported in the paper from my campaign. Absolutely. I don't think you need to spend scores of thousands of dollars to be elected. What you want to do is get your message out in front of as many people as it takes. Which is what I tried to do while showing people it doesn't take $50,000.00 to be heard.
When I say I am a fiscal conservative, I mean it. That means I don't waste money ever.
Not mine and not yours.
So, next time be ready. You are going to see me again on the campaign trail.
And I look forward to speaking with all of those who are interested in real campaign reform. Reform from the candidates.
My best to all,
God bless and be well.
Sincerely,
Ernest J. LeGault
